The Pursuit of Bella

Two centuries in the making, Bella is the revered culmination of eight generations - a spirit crafted not merely to please the palate, but to enrapture the soul. It is tequila for the true connoisseur: one who seeks authenticity over artifice, heritage over trend, and substance over superficial flair.

The tale of Bella Tequila might well have been penned by Gabriel García Márquez, Octavio Paz, or Juan Rulfo - a narrative steeped in magic, memory, and meaning. It begins in the early 1800s, in the sun-drenched valleys of Amatitán, Jalisco, where Father Don Feliciano Romo tended to his ranch, El Refugio. It was here that the seeds of what would become Tequila Herradura (The Romo Family first tequila company) were initially sown - amidst endless sunrises, golden days bathed in agave light, and storms as dramatic as the times they swept through. Through the thunder of the Mexican Revolution and the solemn resistance of the Cristero War, life pulsed on in births and burials, in sorrow and celebration. And from this lineage emerged a woman who would carve her name into the very history of tequila: Doña Gabriela Bella de la Peña - the first woman to helm a tequila enterprise . Like Madame Clicquot and Louise Pommery in the world of Champagne, Bella reshaped an industry and redefined its legacy. Her impact endured through the generations. Alongside her husband, Don Guillermo Romo Celis, and later her son, Don Guillermo Romo de la Peña, the family established Mexico’s first Denomination of Origin for tequila - an unprecedented act of preservation and pride, later recognized across the globe. Decades hence, Don Guillermo Romo de la Peña would once again revolutionize the industry by introducing the reposado category, forever altering the landscape of tequila craftsmanship.

Today, eight generations later, we continue to walk the path she forged, driven by Bella’s enduring vision: to create the finest tequila the world has ever known.
